Why it's worth the walk
Li Cossi is one of the most beautiful beaches in northern Sardinia and the pearl of Costa Paradiso, a resort area in the municipality of Trinità d'Agultu e Vignola. It is a half-moon of golden, slightly coarse sand enclosed by walls of pink granite, washed by transparent water that shades from emerald to deep blue.
Behind the beach runs the small Riu Li Cossi stream, which sometimes forms a little freshwater pool — an unusual sight right next to the sea. The varied rocky seabed, full of fish, makes it excellent for snorkelling.
Getting there
Leave the car in the large car park; from there a path of about 500 metres winds between granite and trachyte rocks down to the cove. It takes around ten minutes (plus photo stops) and includes steps, so wear sturdy shoes rather than flip-flops. Access to the beach is free.
Come early. Li Cossi is the only soft-sand beach in Costa Paradiso, there isn't much flat space, and both the beach and the car park fill up quickly in July and August.
For hikers
A spectacular coastal trail of around seven kilometres links Li Cossi with Li Tinnari, passing the natural bay of Porto Leccio. It is unmarked and rocky in places — suitable only for experienced walkers with water and good footwear.
What to bring
- Water and snacks — services on the beach are minimal.
- Mask and snorkel.
- Shade: the cove gets full sun for most of the day.
